Situated just 20 minutes away from Las Vegas, Henderson is the second-largest city in the state and offers some great sightseeing opportunities for the savvy traveler. It is well worth it to step outside the casino and check out everything this scenic city has to offer. Here are a few of the top attractions.

River Mountain Loop Trail

Henderson offers 34 miles of trails that link it to other major cities and the Lake Mead National Recreation Area. Some of the trails are paved while other parts feature horseback trails. Henderson trailheads include the Mountain Lake Park Trailhead, the Equestrian Park Trailhead, and the Silverman Connector Access Point.

Henderson Bird Viewing Preserve

Outdoor enthusiasts will want to stop by the Henderson Bird Viewing Preserve where they can see dozens of desert birds over a stretch of 140 acres of land. The preserve features nine ponds and dozens of trails that circle around them to offer closer access to the birds.

Lion Habitat Ranch in Henderson

Adults and children can both enjoy a trip to the Lion Habitat Ranch where lions and other rescue animals are housed. The ranch has been in operation for over two decades with the mission of protecting African lions in an environment close to their own. There are over 50 lions and visitors are able to feed both lions and giraffes.

Big Horn Wild West Tours

For a special treat, it is well worth it to book a trip with Big Horn Wild West Tours off Windmill Parkway. The tour company offers tours to the Grand Canyon, Mojave Desert, and the Joshua Tree Forest. Group sizes are kept small and are intimate trips that even allow guests to speak with members of the Hualapai Nation.

Las Vegas Distillery

The Las Vegas Distillery has a rich history as the first distillery to produce alcohol in Nevada. Today the distillery is still family-run and crafts spirits out of two pot stills. Monday through Saturday tours and tastings are offered about every hour and spirits can be purchased in the gift shop.

Clark County Museum

Situated along South Boulder Highway, the Clark County Museum offers a glimpse of the local history of the county. The collection includes objects from the old mining days, Native American tribes, old slot machines, and antique cars like the 1959 Studebaker.
