Posted on March 30, 2020January 29, 2021 by Charles

Poway, California, maybe a small city of about 50,000 located north of San Diego, but this doesn’t mean it lacks behind when it comes to cool activities and things to do when you visit. From beautiful surroundings to sushi lounges, Poway is a place that might surprise you. Here is a list of the things to do when you find yourself in Poway, California.

Iron Mountain Hiking Trail, Poway California

Escape to the Great Outdoors

Surrounded by 4,700 acres of open space and boasting no less than 55 miles of trails and 25 parks. With the nickname, “the City in the Country” for good reason. The area is a popular destination for outdoor aficionados from San Diego and beyond. It offers everything from fascinating rocks to rolling hills covered in chaparral.

Don’t miss the Potato Chip Rock, one of the landmarks of the area located on top of Mount Woodson. Here you can reach at the end of an 8-mile long hike. It’s a very popular place for hikers to take selfies, and you will be able to spot it from far away. It is a rather unusual sliver of stone sticking out of a precipe.

The Blue Sky Ecological Reserve is another unmissable spot. It has a 700-acre canyon that runs through the hills above the town. Home to a unique habitat of flora and fauna the reserve features guided tours. You can learn more about the eucalyptus groves, wildflowers, and coastal sage scrub.

Visit Some Museums and Local Attractions

The Poway Heritage Museum is a great place to learn more about the history and culture of the area. Take the entire family to the Old Poway Park! Here you can hop on a Poway Midland Railroad cable car or have a family picnic. The Poway-Midland Railroad allows you to ride a narrow-gauge full-size heritage railroad. This is a must-do for anyone passionate about trains.

Have a Bite to Eat

Poway is home to a good selection of eateries for a town its size. Options from seafood restaurants such as Brigantine Seafood, to the Sushi Lounge.

American classics are available at the Hamburger Factory Family Restaurant. This is an old Poway favorite. And if you’re in the mood for Italian, Bongiorno’s New York Pizzeria or Villa Capri Trattoria & Wine Bar are Fantastic choices!

The history of Poway lends to the current culture and vibe as the City in the Country. So saddle up, head on up to Poway in East San Diego and have a great time outdoors.
