Renowned for its sport fishing, Mexico is the perfect place to reel in your most excellent catch! Long before Mexico became famous for its ocean-side resorts, it was honored by fishermen the world over who journeyed from far and wide to experience the country’s plentiful waters. The nation’s nearly six thousand miles of coastline is home to more than five hundred species of fish. Although anyone wishing to fish in Mexico should become well-acquainted with the country’s fishing laws and requirements, fisherman can catch-and-release as many fish as they like.

Ensenada, Baja California

World-famous for its sport fishing fleets, Ensenada is just over seventy miles from the United States and is Mexico’s largest port. Anglers have been heading to this town for that “catch of a lifetime” for more than fifty years since the city became internationally renowned for its sport fishing. From bass, bonito, and barracuda to cod, tuna, and albacore, Ensenada is convenient to visit. And also fun and vibrant off the water.

Rocky Point (Puerto Penasco), Sonora

Also near the U.S. border, Rocky Point is a favorite fishing destination. In addition to fishing, other attractions that will keep the rest of the family happy. The Sea of Cortez is full of Red Snapper, Sea Bass, Yellowtail, Dorado, and Grouper. A favorite destination among tourists, Rocky Point also features world-class golf, restaurants, and hotels.

Fishing: Puerta Vallarta, Jalisco

This resort town is famous for sport fishing. Situated on Banderas Bay, Puerta Vallarta thrills anglers with fish-rich water. For example, Dorado, Pacific sailfish, and giant Yellowfin tuna. The bay is forty miles in width and reaches depths of up to two miles. As a result, it’s Mexico’s most extraordinary fishing territory. Charters ranging further into the Mexican Pacific are popular for their big catches. The town is also famous for its hospitality to tourists and its many other cultural and recreational activities.
