Are you looking to combine a slice of history with the opportunity to get a little sun and take a relaxing stroll along the coastline? Virginia Beach offers up the perfect oceanfront for vacation planners who want to indulge in a bit of history and the white sandy shorelines of the Atlantic Ocean. Featuring a 3-mile boardwalk, the bayside beach offers plenty of sand and some great learning opportunities for families and single vacationers. Here are just a few things you will want to place on your to-do list if you are headed to Virginia Beach this year.

Atlantic Fun Park

Located right along the shoreline and accessible from the boardwalk and Route 60, the Atlantic Fun Park is a seasonal amusement park that offers 16 traditional rides, including a Ferris wheel and several coasters. It also is home to a go-kart track, and food stands that provide traditional fair food that is perfect for consuming on a hot summer day.

Rude Inlet

If your idea of a vacation is a bit more adventurous than sunbathing, the Rudee Inlet is the perfect hub for your Virginia Beach vacation. Located near the south end of the beach, the inlet offers fishing charters, parasailing, waterside dining, and jet skiing to visitors, along with traditional snorkeling opportunities.

Virginia Beach Aquarium

Recognized as one of the top aquariums in the US, Virginia Beach’s Aquarium is home to various aquatic animals. It features a variety of hands-on experiences that up the ante, including a stingray pool and several educational stations that are fun for people of all ages to explore.

Cape Henry Light House

As mentioned, Virginia Beach is steeped in history, and one example is the Cape Henry Lighthouse which George Washington commissioned. The lighthouse marked the southern end of the Chesapeake Bay and is open to visitors over 42″ who want to climb up to the viewing area and look out over the bay.

Boardwalk

A trip to Virginia Beach is not complete until you have strolled along the three-mile-long boardwalk that treats visitors to an endless shoreline for as far the eye can see. Lined with food vendors, hotels, and the sandy white beach, it is a treat that is best enjoyed at dusk. The kids will also enjoy the several playgrounds that pop up along the way.
