Fallbrook CA

Fallbrook, California is a town of about 30,000 people that sits in the northern region of San Diego County. The city is best known as the “Avocado Capital of the World,” and its annual Avocado Festival draws thousands of visitors every year. However, Fallbrook has a lot more to offer than just a green fruit.

Hikers and nature enthusiasts will love the opportunity to explore the 26-acre Live Oak County Park. This large park is widely considered to be one of the most scenic in San Diego and is filed with bubbling streams and old live oaks. Outside of the impressive trees, the park also offers dozens of hiking trails, picnic tables, large play areas, playgrounds, volleyball courts, and ball fields.

Fans of odd treasures, like the avocado festival, will also enjoy a stop by the Welburn Gourd Farm in Fallbrook. The Welburn Gourd Farm is the largest supplier of grounds within the USA and is responsible for growing more than 375,000 gourds yearly. People visit the farm to buy dozens of gourds that can be used for decor, planters, artwork, and plenty of other unique reasons.

Speaking of unique, a trip to Fallbrook is not complete without a stop at the Emerald Forest Bird Gardens. The garden sits on private property and is a sanctuary that houses over 350 exotic birds and toucans. If you call in advance you can book a tour of the exclusive property and see some truly special birds.

Gourds and avocados are not the only gems available in Fallbrook, as the rich city also offers a great u-pick strawberry farm known as Kenny’s Strawberry Farm Fallbrook. Strawberries grow from February all the way through July; after which watermelon is available for a short time followed by pumpkins in October.

If you need a break from all the produce farms, head over to the Fallbrook Art Center located centrally in the charming downtown Fallbrook area. The art center is the oldest co-op art gallery in SoCo and features a variety of works by both regional and local artists.

Finally, close out a day trip by wandering the Myrtle Creek Botanical Gardens & Nursery. Situated just a quick jump away from Highway I-15 in Fallbrook, the gardens extend over 30 acres and feature large open fields, a farm, and plenty of flowers and shrubs to explore.
