Fishing: Cabo San Lucas has a grand reputation for its luxury resorts and breathtaking sea vistas.  Topping its list for most popular things to do—fishing reigns supreme!  Sportfishing the waters around Cabo San Lucas is both enchanting and exhilarating.  Sport fishermen clamor to Cabo for its immense sport fish, fabulous charters, and beautiful scenery.  Moreover, this beautiful town in Baja Sur is full of popular attractions and activities to make it your best trip ever!

The Fish

Fishing in Cabo San Lucas means you have a foot in both the Pacific Ocean and the Sea of Cortez.  Cabo’s idyllic location at the tip of the Baja Peninsula makes for extraordinarily fine fishing.  They call it the “Marlin Capital of the World”. Cabo San Lucas is famous for its blue and black marlin populations. But, but fishermen can also expect to hook fish like Jack Crevalle, sailfish, wahoo, snapper, roosterfish, grouper, dorado, cabrilla, yellowfin, and yellowtail.  You might even hook a mako shark—fishermen in these waters frequently do!  Cabo San Lucas is renowned as one of the world’s greatest fishing destinations and few fishermen leave its waters disappointed.

Chartering a Vessel

Cabo San Lucas has some glamorous fleets with luxurious boats to charter. But, there are also boats to accommodate any type of party or group.  Some captains can lead you to the fertile fishing areas in the Pacific or the calmer waters of the Sea of Cortez.  The chartering companies of Cabo are highly skilled and professional. Fishing tournaments are popular events and you’ll have no trouble finding a crew to take you where you want to go.  Most trips include fishing licenses and a mate to clean and fillet your catch. But it’s not a bad idea to check in advance.

Planning Your Cabo San Lucas Fishing Trip

There are many boats available for charter in Cabo, you’ll want to reserve your choice well in advance if possible.  To take your catch back home with you, there are places that clean, filet and vacuum-pack your fish. It’s possible your charter will do this for you as well. You can even cook your catch when you get back to shore. There are grills that will allow you to cook your fish. There are also markets where you can shop for ingredients to fix up your own seafood feast.

For many, Cabo is all about the water: fishing, whale watching, scuba and snorkeling, Cabo a watery playground.  However, this amazing town has many other attractions that lure travelers from all over the world.  Incredible restaurants, spas, resorts, clubs, and cafes—Cabo has everything you could want in a vacation destination, including the romantic sunsets!  There are also many types of accommodations from world-class, all-inclusive resorts to boutique hotels and private villas.  There are also plenty of budget-friendly bed and breakfasts and travel lodges that are ideally located near the sea.  After you’ve caught all the fish you can handle, you might grab a sunny game of golf, hike the nearby mountains, or simply relax on one of the glorious stretches of beach.
