Surfing is one of the many reasons vacationers come to Baja coast cities like Ensenada.  Novices to world-class surfers love the wave action off the coast of Baja California and Baja California Sur.    The International Surfing Tournament date is around the summer solstice.  Anyone with a love for cold saltwater, bodyboarding, SUP, or surfing might want to consider checking out Ensenada’s exciting celebration this year.

Ensenada’s Surf Week Celebration

The surfing celebration includes activities and events.  Sponsored by Surf-Ens, and CEARTE. It’s an excellent time for surfers to meet with vendors and other surfers to trade techniques and stories.  Amateur surfing enthusiasts can also sign up for surfing lessons.

Additionally, they will show surfing movies. Most of the events and expeditions will be at Centro Estatal de las Artes Ensenada on Blvd. Lázaro Cárdenas and Av. Club Rotario.  On Saturday, a big fiesta is scheduled to top off the celebration.  All in all, the event highlights the importance of surfing in Ensenada and celebrates the city’s surfing culture.  It’s a phenomenal time to visit Ensenada if you love to surf and want to learn more about the sport.

The Surfing Scene in Ensenada

Ensenada enjoys a vibrant surfing culture.  With its nearby “Killers” beach known more regularly to tourists as Todos Santos, surfers have been heading to the area since roughly about the 1940s.  Ensenada is a great home base for surfers who want to check out the action at various beaches.  Ensenada has a lot of surf shops where you can rent a surfboard. The waters off the Baja Peninsula get colder as you head south. Cold temperatures are a result of the currents and underwater canyons.  So, the water is much colder than the waters off Southern California. Therefore, bring a thick wetsuit!

You’ll meet plenty of other surfing enthusiasts and enjoy all the attractions that Ensenada has to offer!
