Directions to Rocky Point
While more and more people are choosing to get to Puerto Penasco by air, driving there by car is also popular. Unlike many other Mexican highways running south from the border, the road from Lukeville (the town on the US side of the crossing) is very safe. As long as you drive only during the day, you will be absolutely fine. From the border, the drive only takes a little over an hour. It is also essential to remember that you need Mexico insurance to drive an automobile in the country – your United States insurance won’t cover you – so make sure that you get set up with some before leaving on your trip. The two primary means of getting to Puerto Penasco are by air or by car. The airport at Puerto Penasco is small – it can only process 2,000 or so visitors per day, but, luckily, that’s usually enough, even at the very peak of the season. The cheapest airplane tickets from the United States can be found connecting from the Los Angeles Airport.
While flying and driving are the most popular ways of entering Puerto Penasco, a few visitors decide to take one of two shuttle buses in from Arizona. Both buses run regularly with one leaving from Phoenix, Arizona, and the other from Tucson, Arizona.
Once you get to Rocky Point, getting around within the city is relatively easy. Since it is such a bustling tourist destination, there are plenty of taxi cabs willing to take you from place to place. If you want a car for your own touring, then there are two car rental locations in town.
If you’re on a budget, don’t worry – Rocky Point is very easy to navigate solely on foot. Though some of the resorts and resort areas are on the outskirts of town, the downtown and beach areas are all very compact. It is easy to spend your whole trip walking without ever needing to hail a cab or rent a car. Plus, there is a local bus service that is cheap (though it only runs during the day) and bicycles can also be rented for a small fee.
Getting around in Puerto Penasco is really very easy. All that you need to do is print this map and you’ll be set. It’s such a small place that it is hard to get lost. In addition, the locals are very friendly and they should be able to point you in the direction that you need almost all of the time. Part of what makes Puerto Penasco, Mexico such a truly wonderful place to visit is the ease of getting around!
